while i was watching conan o'brien last night, i realized the drastic effect and difference that the writers strike was having on the film industry, as if it was already apparent with the golden globes. For example, while the writers were still around, conan o'brien and co. reminded us how cool Chuck Norris really was/is by showing us clips from his 8 season running, ground breaking, action-packed tv show: Walker Texas Ranger...They reflected not only his natural talent as an actor but also his undeniable legendary status as the "Coolest Muthaf*cker on Planet Earth"...

i miss the Walker Texas Ranger lever, lets end the writers strike...

some movies of 2007

Usually when i find that i am trapped in the clutches of my boredom, a good movie helps offset it...but whats out (in the theaters)...hmm? although the year has just begun, there isn' much out right now. anything worth dropping $12 on? well i guess i'll write about some of the movies that came out in 2007 that i thought was pretty good...lets see...

*Transformers - this was the "independance day" of 2007...full of action, little bit of comedy here and there (even though kind of corny), and a long (2 and 1/2 hrs). I left the movie theater feeling full and tired like i finished dinner. this movie isn't filet mignon and its not gonna win a grammy for best picture but it should definitely win one for best special fx.

*Harry Potter and The Order of The Pheonix - another movie that has great special fx's. this Potter film is the best and darkest yet. this kid gets into more trouble than john mclain...speaking of which...

*Die Hard 4.0 - Bruce Willis brings one of his signature character back to life in this movie filled with tons of action and over the top stunts, interesting storyline, plausible...hmm? great addition to the Die Hard series. ranks 3rd in the series but thats b/c die hard 1 is a classic and die hard 3 is just as good...die hard 2 = terrible.

*28 weeks later - I typically do not like scary movies but I actually enjoyed this one. The opening scene is one of the most suspenseful scenes that I have seen in a while. there were a lot of things that happened in the movie that i didn't expect and that what i liked about the movie...although you figured it would ended semi-good, there were times that i wasn't sure. I thought the first one (28 days later) was great as well...

*Talk To Me. Don Cheadle brings Petey Green, a D.C. dj, to life in this movie that focuses on a time in America when it is going through a lot of changes. The 70's is a defining time in America's history, for instance, people back then wore funny clothes, listened to good music and were socially conscious at the same time. lol...and this movie has all of that...

*Children of Men - This movie is gritty as it is gripping, it manages to effectively convey the paranoia and despair of a humanity that is about to be extinguished. A genuine thrill ride with a soul.

*Old Country for Old Men - Most audiences will look at the film and see only the simple plot of a fugitive and his two pursuers, but there more being said and more being asked within the wide open spaces of No Country for Old Men.The Coen Brothers deliver another film that stays with the viewer after he/she watches it. This film is a masterful display of time, place, character, moral choices, immoral certainties, human nature and fate.

*Gone Baby Gone - With this movie I was more impressed by the effectivness of the Affleck Brothers. For Ben Affleck it was his writing/directing abilities (didn't think he had it in him) and Casey Affleck effective perfomance as a Private Investigator who is both resolved and vulnerable. Although the script has a few rough edges here and there the Affleck Brothers both emerge triumphant in this twisty, moraly ambiguous, yet satisfying thriller.
