I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. You'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure you laugh just a little harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that you're still the only one who really, really gets it...

Alive in Jo'burg / Subscribe to J.T.'s blog
District 9 is coming out tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to seeing it! I probably shouldn't have but I've read a lot of articles (reviews, background info) on this movie and I hope I didn't spoil it...
The movie is based on Director Neill Blomkamp short film called Alive in Jo'Burg. Peep the vid below...
Speaking of movies, my friend/brother/comrade, J.T., just set up a blog talking about any/everything related to movies. Although its in the beginning stages, but knowing J.T. he will keep you entertained and keep you thinking w/ post to come. So check out/comment/subscribe/follow my brother from another mother's blog out HERE

Impressionistic Polaroids
When I was around 10 years old I remember watching a local morning news report about Polaroid manipulation. The segment told the story of a guy who had been given a Polaroid camera by his father and "accidentally" found a way to change the photos into mini artwork...
The following pictures are not photoshop'd but instead they are physically manipulated while the polaroid is developing...
Because the emulsion in Polaroids is gelatin-based, and the Mylar covering does not allow water vapor to readily pass, the emulsion stays soft for several days, allowing artists to press and manipulate the emulsion to produce effects somewhat like impressionist paintings.
This is a pretty good video explaining how to manipulate polaroids...
Pretty cool huh?!?
I just bought a old school Polaroid SX-70 off of ebay yesterday (you know I had too). Hopefully I'll have it in my hands next week!!! Although I got the camera for a great deal (cheap as hell), film is gonna cost me a bit of change but in the end it'll be worth it...
****You can only do this w/ the now discontinued (since 2006) SX-70 film. This technique will NOT work w/ the still available (but hard to find) Polaroid 600 film. Just wanted to let you know before you go and start investing in Polaroid equipment like my dumba$$ did...****

End Times by Jill Greenberg
Photographer Jill Greenberg's series of photographs called "End Times" features children crying. The children are provoked by Greenberg taking away their candy or toys. This technique is known as "manipulation." The idea for this exhibit came to Greenberg when she was shooting a little boy who wouldn't stop crying. She was captivated by his face that she describes as "appalled."
Many critics have spoken out against Greenberg, saying that she is abusing children in the search for a good photograph. Greenberg rebuffs these statements: "The people who are criticising weren't at the shoot and all the mother's were fine with it." When criticized for making children cry, Greenberg reminds viewers that this is "the exact technique used in ads and movies and TV."

Below are a collection of pictures taken by one of my favorite photographer, Howard Bingham. He is famously known as the biographer and photography of Muhammad Ali.
