coffee table + books: Hotel Lachapelle

"My work is about making candy for the eyes. It’s about grabbing your attention. Even though my work is appearing in magazines I am trying to make a large picture. I want my photographs to read like a poster."

coffee table + books: Wall and Piece

The thing I hate the most about advertising is that it attracts all the bright, creative and ambitious young people, leaving us mainly with the slow and self-obsessed to become our artists. Modern art is a disaster area. Never in the field of human history has so much been used by so many to say so little.
~Banksy

Banksy is a well-known pseudo-anonymous British graffiti artist and his artwork can be seen around the world. It is often-satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. His street art, which combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stencilling technique...

I've been following him for a minute and his work always impresses me. He is one of the best...

His work is not limited to graffiti...for example last month he opened up a gallery in New York called "Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill"

My teacher is an alien...

Do you remember these books?!? Problably one of the most checked out books in my elementary school's library and sadly these are few books of the handful of books that I've read in my 24 yrs of existance...nostalgic...

Ran across this pretty interesting interview at Gizmodo w/ the author, Bruce Coville

The man who dreamed of electric sheep...

I found myself watching Minority Report until 2:30am last night/this morning...I forgot how good this film is...below is man behind it and others...

Philip K. Dick (December 16, 1928 – March 2, 1982) was an American science fiction novelist and short story writer. Dick published 36 novels, 14 short story collections and wrote approximately 121 short stories, many of which appeared in science fiction magazines.

Although Dick spent most of his career as a writer in near-poverty, nine of his stories have been adapted into popular films since his death, including:
-Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)
-Total Recall (We Can Remember It for You Wholesale)
-A Scanner Darkly
-Minority Report

In 2007, Dick became the first science fiction writer to be included in The Library of America series.

Although I haven't cracked open a book in a while, I think I'll head to Barnes and Noble later on 2nite to pickup one...

coffee table + books: Art and Sole

Where art and sneakers collide. Art and Sole by InterCity Design is a book is split into two sections, the first looks at sneakers designed by artists and the second looks at artwork inspired and or funded by sneaker brands – from sculptures made from dissected shoes, to oil paintings on canvas, and even the customisation of the shoes themselves.

Who doesn't love sneakers?!? Can you ever have enough shoes?!?

coffee table + books

The Limited Edition, currently out of stock, book called "les must de Cartier" showcases Cartier's history with 400 pages of images demonstrating the process of Cartier's revitalization of luxury at a time when luxury was seemingly dead.

if you can find/afford one, it'll definitely be a great addition to your other coffee table books.

coffee table + books

So, I go to Barnes and Noble (B&N) or borders on the regular...its a great way of relieving stress at the end of the day. I'ma NERD, I know...

FLASHBACK!
In g'boro, I used to go to the Barnes and Noble all the time...I would park my "sports car" in the b&n parking lot, walk to the cold stone and get the a.burton special (cake batter ice cream + cinnamon ice cream + pecans + a waffle cone in a like it size), then walk back to b&n, grab a few magazines, read and eat, enjoy...

Unfortunately now here in A-town, the cold stone is down the street and around the corner...and like i said before (link) cold stone ice cream = causes car accidents! trying to eat and drive my car, which is a manual, is tough...

So now on to this post...

coffee table + books will be posts dedicated to all the books that I come across while walking to the magazine section in the book store that I find interesting and think every coffee table shouldn't be without.

first up...
